The Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association (PHENSA) was established in 1977, as a consortium of nursing education leaders in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The purpose of the Association is to exercise responsible leadership in planning and implementing programs for action for the growth, development and advancement of baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

We strive to:

  • Identify issues, share ideas and experiences which promote innovation and improvement of baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs.
  • Assist leaders of baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs to assume a pro-active position in relation to forces which impact nursing education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Develop more effective communication with the general public, legislators and other interested communities, regarding the goals of baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs; and the need for and utilization of graduates of these programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
